How to Clean TPE Tesla Floor Mats Without Damaging the Finish

How to Clean TPE Tesla Floor Mats Without Damaging the Finish

All-weather floor mats are designed to get dirty. The challenge is cleaning them without leaving a greasy shine, detergent residue or a finish that looks worse than before.

For TPE liners such as MoldedFit, routine cleaning is straightforward. In most cases, you need water, a mild cleaner, a soft brush or microfiber towel, and a little time to dry.

Quick routine cleaning

  1. Remove the liners from the vehicle.
  2. Shake or vacuum away loose dirt and sand.
  3. Rinse with clean water.
  4. Use mild soap if needed.
  5. Agitate stubborn areas gently with a soft brush.
  6. Rinse thoroughly so no cleaner remains.
  7. Allow the liners to dry before reinstalling.

Why remove the mats first?

Cleaning molded liners outside the vehicle makes it easier to rinse away debris and prevents excess water from reaching the carpet underneath. It also lets you inspect the floor before reinstalling the liners.

Cleaning dry dust and sand

For light dirt, vacuuming may be all you need. Remove the liner and vacuum the channels and corners before using water. This prevents sand from turning into a muddy slurry during rinsing.

Cleaning mud

Allow heavy mud to loosen or partially dry, remove the largest debris, then rinse. Use mild soap and a soft brush on residue. Avoid aggressive scrubbing unless necessary; repeated harsh abrasion can change the appearance of any textured surface over time.

Cleaning drink spills

For coffee, soda and other everyday spills, blot or rinse as soon as practical. Mild soap and water are usually a better first step than reaching for a strong solvent.

Pay attention to molded channels and edges where liquid can collect.

Road salt and winter residue

Winter grime can leave a light-colored film. Rinse thoroughly with water and repeat if necessary. Removing residue regularly is easier than allowing repeated layers to build up.

Pet hair

Vacuum first. A slightly damp microfiber cloth can help collect remaining hair from textured areas. For seat-back and cargo protection, cleaning before hair becomes deeply packed into surrounding carpet can save time.

What should you avoid?

When maintaining a refined matte finish, avoid treating the liner like a glossy tire. Strong solvents, harsh chemicals and heavy silicone-style dressings may alter the appearance or leave the surface unnecessarily slick.

If you are considering a specialty cleaner, test it on a small inconspicuous area first and follow the cleaner manufacturer’s directions.

How to keep a matte finish looking new

The simplest method is often the best: remove loose debris frequently, use mild soap only when needed, rinse completely and let the product dry naturally.

A clean matte TPE surface should look clean—not artificially wet or shiny.

Before reinstalling

Make sure the liner and vehicle floor are free from objects or debris that could interfere with fit. Reinstall each piece in its correct position and verify that the driver liner is secure and maintains proper pedal clearance.

Cleaning MoldedFit

MoldedFit is designed for everyday exposure to water, mud, snow, sand and spills. Its waterproof TPE surface makes routine cleanup simple: remove, rinse, dry and reinstall.

Regular basic care is all that is needed to preserve the restrained matte appearance that is part of the MoldedFit design.
